Type
Orogenic gold (Archaean greenstone belt)

Laverton greenstone belt (north-eastern Eastern Goldfields Province, Yilgarn Craton), greenschist-facies metamorphism. Orogenic gold dated at about 2.65 Ga across the district (hydrothermal monazite and xenotime, SHRIMP U-Pb), unrelated in age to nearby granitoids: a single fluid from a deep, distal source according to the authors; regional fluid calculated at 300 °C at δ13C -3.9 ‰ and δ18O +5.8 ‰. Polymict conglomerate cut by syenite dykes; 220 t Au at 3.3 g/t, in stacked subhorizontal lodes with dolomite, albite, sericite and pyrite. Published age of 2650 ± 5 Ma (Salier et al., 2004); H2O-CO2-NaCl fluid at 3-6 wt% NaCl eq., 270 ± 50 °C and 1.9 ± 0.6 kbar. Coordinates from Mindat.
