Mount Morgans
Western Australia, Laverton greenstone belt, Australia
Orogenic goldAu
- Type
- Orogenic gold (Archaean greenstone belt)
Laverton greenstone belt (north-eastern Eastern Goldfields Province, Yilgarn Craton), greenschist-facies metamorphism. Orogenic gold dated at about 2.65 Ga across the district (hydrothermal monazite and xenotime, SHRIMP U-Pb), unrelated in age to nearby granitoids: a single fluid from a deep, distal source according to the authors; regional fluid calculated at 300 °C at δ13C -3.9 ‰ and δ18O +5.8 ‰. Ore in a banded iron formation (BIF) altered to dolomite, pyrite, quartz and magnetite; hydrothermal monazite dated at 2650 ± 7 Ma (31 SHRIMP analyses on 14 grains). Black shales host part of the ore. Coordinates from Wikipedia (Mount Morgans mine).
