- Soil
Lanmuchang (Guizhou), Hg-Tl deposit where Tl forms its own minerals (lorandite), mined for Hg for over 350 years then for lorandite alone in the 1990s until 2000; poorly developed soils (Oxisols) derived from weathering of mineralised outcrops, rich in Fe2O3 (100 to 200 g/kg). Soil at +0.45, heavier than the Lengerich soils and Chinese loess, possibly through oxidation of sulphide-derived Tl(I) and Tl(III) fixation on Fe-Mn oxyhydroxides. Green cabbage, a strong Tl accumulator, gets lighter from root (-2.54) to young edible leaves (-5.39): preferential uptake of light Tl, opposite to the heavy Tl enrichment of the contaminated Lengerich soils (Kersten et al., 2014). Indicative coordinates of the deposit.
