- Orogenic gold in quartz-carbonate veins (Appalachian greenstone belt)
Annidale Group (late Cambrian to Tremadocian, 497 to 481 Ma), Penobscot back-arc between Ganderia and Avalonia, metamorphosed at greenschist facies; auriferous quartz-carbonate veins with chlorite-sericite-fuchsite haloes, ascribed to the Penobscot orogeny and the Stewarton Gabbro (479 ± 2 Ma) according to the authors. Southwest of East Scotch Settlement, near Stewarton Corner: narrow quartz veins in sheared pyritic black shale, tuff and mafic flows of the East Scotch Settlement Formation, cut by mafic dykes, along thrusts near the contact with the Carpenter Brook Formation. Arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, pyrite; grab samples up to 8.5 g/t Au. Indicative coordinates (Annidale village).
