Orogenic goldAu (As)

Type
Orogenic gold in quartz-carbonate veins (Appalachian greenstone belt)

Annidale Group (late Cambrian to Tremadocian, 497 to 481 Ma), Penobscot back-arc between Ganderia and Avalonia, metamorphosed at greenschist facies; auriferous quartz-carbonate veins with chlorite-sericite-fuchsite haloes, ascribed to the Penobscot orogeny and the Stewarton Gabbro (479 ± 2 Ma) according to the authors. Only occurrence in the Lawson Brook Formation, in the northeast of the belt: NW fault zone cutting mafic volcanics and gabbro, quartz-carbonate cemented breccia, disseminated acicular arsenopyrite, leucoxene and fuchsite. Grab samples up to 22.55 g/t Au, 1.4 g/t Au over 1.9 m in drilling. 40Ar-39Ar muscovite weighted mean age of 394 ± 17 Ma, without a reliable plateau, probably reset by late mafic dykes. Indicative coordinates (Annidale village).
