Orogenic goldAu (Ag)

Type
Orogenic gold in quartz-carbonate veins (Appalachian greenstone belt)

Annidale Group (late Cambrian to Tremadocian, 497 to 481 Ma), Penobscot back-arc between Ganderia and Avalonia, metamorphosed at greenschist facies; auriferous quartz-carbonate veins with chlorite-sericite-fuchsite haloes, ascribed to the Penobscot orogeny and the Stewarton Gabbro (479 ± 2 Ma) according to the authors. About 1 km north of Grant Brook West: quartz-carbonate veins in fuchsite-altered gabbro-diorite, north of the Albright Brook thrust and in Carpenter Brook metasediments. Arsenopyrite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite; drilling 0.515 g/t Au over 1.0 m, float samples up to 8.5 g/t Au. Indicative coordinates (1 km north of Grant Brook West).
