Huangjiawan (Niutitang Ni-Mo horizon)

Zunyi district, Guizhou (Yangtze Platform margin), China

SEDEXMo-Ni (V, PGE, Au)

Type
Hyper-metalliferous sulphidic Ni-Mo black shale (Early Cambrian)

Layer a few centimetres to 60 cm thick, phosphate-rich, with over 10 % sulphur and organic carbon, enriched in Mo and Ni up to the percent level and in As, Au, PGE, Re, Cu, Zn, Cd, Ag, Sb, Se, Tl and Hg; discontinuous over more than 1000 km along the rifted margin of the Yangtze Platform (Zunyi and Sancha districts). Grades laterally into vanadium shales and sapropelites. Origin debated between hydrothermal exhalation and euxinic seawater; the authors favour a chain of marine processes with brine input. δ114Cd +0.31 ± 0.10 ‰ in the sulphidic horizon, 0.00 ± 0.14 ‰ in barren shales (Frei et al., 2020); δ98Mo from -0.1 to +2.3 ‰. Classed as SEDEX for lack of a black-shale family. Indicative coordinates.
