Sedimentary exhalative deposit (SEDEX)

A stratiform zinc-lead deposit laid down in an extensional sedimentary basin, where metal-bearing brines vent onto or just below the sea floor. The ore forms thin beds interlayered with shales.

Composition

Metals: Zn, Pb, Ag (Ba). Minerals: sphalerite, galena, pyrite, pyrrhotite, barite, in shales that are often organic-rich.
