Huguangyan basalt weathering profile
Guangdong, Zhanjiang, Huguangyan Maar Lake, China
Soils
- Type
- Soil
8 m lateritic profile on basalt beside Huguangyan Maar Lake (Zhanjiang, Guangdong), tropical climate, profile age about 78 ka; kaolinite, goethite, quartz, hematite and ilmenite. Soils are lighter than the basalt: iron oxides retain 121Sb and 123Sb goes to the waters; atmospheric input (rain, litter) dominant in the upper 4 m (Wu et al., 2024). Indicative coordinates (Huguangyan lake). Layers E1 (0-1.6 m), E2 (1.6-4 m) and E3 (4-7.4 m); Sb from 0.02 to 0.52 µg/g against 0.04 µg/g in the basalt. Values per depth in Table S2 and Fig. 2 (supplement not supplied).
δ123Sb in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system
Standard : NIST SRM 3102a
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.212 ± 0.02 ‰ | 3 | fresh basalt (ZJ-B1 to ZJ-B3) Published mean of 2.12 ± 0.20 ε (2 SD, n = 3) divided by 10; individual values not published. | Wu et al. (2024), Antimony isotopic fractionation during intensive chemical weathering of… | |
| −0.125 ‰ | −0.485 / 0.219 ‰ | 31 | soil, whole profile (integrated value) Published range of -4.85 to +2.19 ε over 31 soils, divided by 10; central value = Sb inventory composition of the profile from the mass balance (-1.25 ε), not an arithmetic mean. | Wu et al. (2024), Antimony isotopic fractionation during intensive chemical weathering of… |
| −0.196 / 0.151 ‰ | soil, layer E1 (0-1.6 m) Published range of -1.96 to +1.51 ε divided by 10; Sb and ε123Sb correlated with organic carbon in the top 30 cm (complexation of heavy rain and litter Sb), then anticorrelated with Fe2O3 between 0.4 and 1.6 m. | Wu et al. (2024), Antimony isotopic fractionation during intensive chemical weathering of… | ||
| 0.219 ‰ | 1 | soil, layer E2 at 1.8 m (ZJ-12) Single analysis; published at +2.19 ε; former redox interface (water table) accumulating Sb, Fe, Mn, Ce, Co and Mo (τSb of 619 %); heaviest soil value. | Wu et al. (2024), Antimony isotopic fractionation during intensive chemical weathering of… | |
| −0.104 / 0.085 ‰ | soil, layer E3 (4-7.4 m) Published range of -1.04 to +0.85 ε divided by 10; without external input, lighter than the basalt and increasingly so with weathering (IOL) and goethite plus hematite content. | Wu et al. (2024), Antimony isotopic fractionation during intensive chemical weathering of… |
