Gardon catchment: surface waters (2013)

Gard, Cévennes (Gardon catchment), France

Rivers and surface water

Type
River or surface water

Surface waters of catchments marked by former mines (Sb, Pb-Zn, coal); δ123Sb measured against PlasmaCAL solution lot SC0108283 (about +0.04 ‰ relative to the Montpellier SPEX). Sb is dissolved and dominated by Sb(V); conservative transport along the Gardon d'Alès (Resongles et al., 2015). Gardon d'Alès upstream and downstream of the Sb-mineralised zone, its mining tributaries (Ravin des Bernes below the Felgerette mine, Grabieux, Avène, Amous below the Carnoulès Pb-Zn mine) and the Gardon d'Anduze; catchment mean of +0.55 ± 0.21 ‰ (n = 12, tap water included). At the confluence, about 90 % of the Sb comes from the Gardon d'Alès. Indicative coordinates.
