Other hydrothermalCo (Ni)

Type
Hydrothermal Co-Ni arsenides and sulpharsenides

Axial Zone of the Spanish Central Pyrenees (Huesca and Lleida), Co-Ni arsenide, diarsenide and sulpharsenide deposits in the hanging wall of thin-skinned thrusts (Gavarnie nappe, Nogueras thrust sheets), footwall of Variscan black shales; formed between 300 and 600 °C. Sm-Nd age of ore-stage ankerites of 86 ± 27 Ma (Late Cretaceous), coeval with Pyrenean high-temperature low-pressure metamorphism, mantle exhumation and alkaline magmatism. Fluid of magmatic origin masked by interaction with black shales and carbonates, sulphur and metals leached from the Variscan basement and the underlying black shales according to Manuel et al. (2018). Ankeritised carbonate horizon 500 m long and up to 2 m thick on top of Silurian black shales (autochthonous units of the Gavarnie nappe), below the Triassic red beds, controlled by E-W fractures; decimetric pockets, disseminations and veinlets, locally in porphyritic granite dykes; four stages (Fe sulphides and sulpharsenides, Co-Ni arsenides and sulpharsenides, Co triarsenides, late Fe-Bi-Cu-Co stage). Sulphur partly from the local black shales. Indicative coordinates (San Juan de Plan village).
