Volcanogenic massive sulfidesCu-Sn-Zn

Type
Cu-Sn volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS)

One of the largest copper deposits in Europe (initial resource of 34 Mt at 8.5 % Cu), unique among VMS deposits for its high-grade tin ores (up to 60 % SnO2). Cassiterite, dated in situ at 363 to 366 Ma (U-Pb), is coeval with the felsic host volcanism. Massive ore sulfur mostly from bacterial reduction of seawater sulfate, with a thermochemical contribution; tin-ore sulfur close to 0 ‰, attributed to magmatic fluids from a hidden granite. Tin ores have εNd(350 Ma) of -6.9 to -9.5 and an initial 87Sr/86Sr of 0.7103: the tin-bearing fluid source is external, magmatic or metamorphic, and distinct from that of the sulfides (Relvas et al., 2001). Indicative coordinates.
