- Type
- Fault-controlled hydrothermal iron lenses and stockworks
Ferruginous lenses and iron oxide vein stockworks along major faults, in the Late Cretaceous, in Judea Group carbonates; hematite, goethite, hematitic jasperoids, with calcite, dolomite, minor gypsum and barite. Ore averaging 63 % Fe2O3, mostly goethite. Ore of smelting experiment EXP-6. Brauns et al. (2020): the three Negev ores share the same 187Os/188Os (1.03 to 1.07) but very different Os contents.

| 1.0468 ± 0.0243 | 1.0296 / 1.064 | 2 | ore roasted in a wood fire before smelting Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 2 analyses, 1.0296 to 1.0640 (F.EXP-6-50 1.0296; F.EXP-6-50 réplique 1.0640). | 1.0496 ± 0.0005 | 1.049 / 1.05 | 3 | bloomery iron (bloom and forged bar) from this ore, experimental smelt Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 3 analyses, 1.0490 to 1.0500 (F.EXP-6-40 1.0500; F.EXP-6-43 1.0490; F.EXP-6-43 réplique 1.0498). Os: F.EXP-6-40 63680 ppt; F.EXP-6-43 63995 ppt; F.EXP-6-43 réplique 63680 ppt. Os enriched in the metal (4 to 28 times the ore) with no change in 187Os/188Os: the ratio carries over from ore to iron, which allows ancient iron to be tied to its ore. | Brauns et al.
