Bahariya Oasis iron ores (El Gedida mine)
Western Desert, Bahariya Oasis, Égypte
OtherFe
- Type
- Sedimentary and weathering iron ore (hematite, goethite) with barite
Middle Eocene iron ores at the top of the Bahariya Formation. Barite occurs as fragments at the base, as pockets within the ore and disseminated at the top. Its sulfur, lighter than Eocene seawater, and its more radiogenic strontium point to fluids that passed through the Bahariya sandstones and the basement.
