Lakkor Co

Tibet (Xizang), Ngari Prefecture, Shiquanhe-Lakkor Co-Yongzhu-Jiali ophiolite melange zone, China

OtherB (Li, K)

Type
Boron-rich salt-lake brine

Boron-rich salt lake on the ophiolite melange zone (Jurassic MORB- and arc-type basalts) on the southern flank of the Bangong-Nujiang suture; sampled in winter 2015 (Li et al., 2022). Coordinates not published (map between 31°50' and 32°10' N, 83°45' and 84°15' E). Na-Cl-SO4 brines at pH 9.0-9.2, 401 to 849 mg/L B; fed by the Bai Kok (south) and Somme (east) rivers; Quaternary carbonate deposits (hydromagnesite, aragonite) with 370 mg/kg B that release light boron to the waters. Li et al. (2022): rivers are the main boron source.
