Bongará area, Amazonas (northern Peru), Peru

Mississippi Valley TypeZn-Pb

Type
Mississippi Valley-type (MVT)

Stratabound Zn-Pb mineralisation in 2 to 5 m layers over about 2 × 3 km, in dissolution breccias of Chambará Formation carbonates (Pucará Group, Late Triassic-Jurassic), emplaced during the Peruvian orogeny (Late Cretaceous). Sulfur derives from thermochemical reduction of dissolved sulfate (Cretaceous seawater, evaporites of the Chambará-Condorsinga or Sarayaquillo formations). Organic, possibly bacterial, sulfur is added: values lower and more scattered than at Florcita. About 13 km north-west of Pedro Ruiz. Indicative coordinates.
