Mississippi Valley-type deposit (MVT)
A lead-zinc deposit hosted in platform carbonates, far from any magmatic activity. It forms at low temperature (75 to 200 °C) from basinal brines that travel long distances; sulfur often comes from sulfate reduction.
Composition
Metals: Zn, Pb (Cd, Ge, Ga, Ag). Minerals: sphalerite, galena, pyrite, marcasite, dolomite, calcite, barite, fluorite.
