UraniumU
- Type
- Sandstone-hosted uranium (Middle Jurassic Zhiluo Formation)
Tabular and roll-shaped orebodies above 1000 µg/g U in the lower member of the Zhiluo Formation (grey sandstone below chloritised green sandstone), over several kilometres; coffinite associated with secondary pyrite, ilmenite and bitumen, partly biogenic. Palaeo-oxidation, reduction by hydrocarbon fluids and hydrothermal reworking; U-Pb ages from 177 to 8 Ma, mainly Late Cretaceous. Organic carbon and bacterial sulphate reduction sulphur according to the isotope compilations (Akhtar et al., 2017, supplementary tables). Indicative coordinates (Dongsheng district, Ordos city).
δ34S in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system
Standard : V-CDT
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| −8.46 ± 18.92 ‰ | −39.2 / 26.97 ‰ | 24 | sandstone cement pyrite (euhedral and framboidal combined) Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 24 analyses, 24 distinct values out of 30 compiled: five values of Hu and Wu (2009) identical to Wu et al. (2009) and ZKA475-115, cited by Cai et al. (2006) and Li et al. (2007), counted once; bimodal distribution that the text ascribes to euhedral pyrite (+3.0 to +26.97 ‰) and bacterial-reduction framboidal pyrite (-4.7 to -39.2 ‰), not distinguished in the supplement. | Akhtar et al. (2017), Sandstone type uranium deposits in the Ordos Basin, Northwest China… |
δ13C in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system
Standard : V-PDB
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| −9.8 ± 4.6 ‰ | −23.62 / −1.6 ‰ | 53 | sandstone cement calcite Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 53 analyses, mostly marine carbon, two values (-19.6 and -23.62 ‰) of organic origin. | Akhtar et al. (2017), Sandstone type uranium deposits in the Ordos Basin, Northwest China… |
δ18O in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system
Standard : V-SMOW
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17.9 ± 2.42 ‰ | 10.32 / 24.6 ‰ | 53 | sandstone cement calcite Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 53 analyses, seven values of Wu et al. (2009) converted from PDB. | Akhtar et al. (2017), Sandstone type uranium deposits in the Ordos Basin, Northwest China… |
| 11.8 ± 2.4 ‰ | 6.1 / 17.83 ‰ | 25 | quartz-hosted fluid inclusions of the sandstones (compilation) Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 25 analyses, Yang et al. (2009), Li and Wang (2007) and Wu (2010), varied lithologies including a kaolinite sample (HD-5). | Akhtar et al. (2017), Sandstone type uranium deposits in the Ordos Basin, Northwest China… |
| 18.37 ± 6.97 ‰ | 12.31 / 30.99 ‰ | 6 | fluids of sandstone carbonates (Wu et al., 2007) Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 6 analyses, samples described as sandstone carbonates; the 30.99 ‰ maximum looks like a carbonate rather than a water δ18O. | Akhtar et al. (2017), Sandstone type uranium deposits in the Ordos Basin, Northwest China… |
δD in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system
Standard : V-SMOW
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |

| −52.48 ± 37.93 ‰ | −102 / 26.5 ‰ | 25 | quartz-hosted fluid inclusions of the sandstones (compilation) Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 25 analyses, same samples; maximum of +26.5 ‰ (ZKA139-35-13) whereas the text gives -102 to -26.5 ‰, sign possibly lost; several values close to 0 ‰ hardly compatible with meteoric or magmatic water. | Akhtar et al. (2017), Sandstone type uranium deposits in the Ordos Basin, Northwest China… |
| −15 ± 10.04 ‰ | −31.6 / −0.7 ‰ | 6 | fluids of sandstone carbonates (Wu et al., 2007) Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 6 analyses, same samples. | Akhtar et al. (2017), Sandstone type uranium deposits in the Ordos Basin, Northwest China… |
