Pezinok tailings pond (borehole PK-6)
Little Carpathians (Malé Karpaty), Pezinok, Slovakia
Mine tailings and waste rock
- Type
- Mine tailings and waste rock
Kaufmann et al. (2024, Chemical Geology): in situ δ123Sb of secondary antimony minerals formed by stibnite weathering; some keep the stibnite signature (complete Sb transfer), others (tripuhyite, chapmanite, hydroxyferroroméite, stibiconite) are lighter, precipitated from only part of the dissolved Sb or adsorbed on iron oxides. 20 m borehole PK-6 in the tailings pond of the Pezinok mine, through sandy-silty tailings then alluvium; Sb-rich tripuhyite (FeSbO4) (38 to 62 % Sb2O5), Al- and Si-rich Sb oxide pseudomorphs and Sb-bearing iron oxides.
