Sürtmeçe (Muratdağı)

Kütahya, Muratdağı region (Gediz), Turkey

Epithermal depositsSb

Type
Hot-spring stibnite (post-Miocene silica-carbonate deposits)

Muratdağı antimony region (western Turkey), more than ten intermittently mined occurrences: post-Miocene mineralisation tied to silica-carbonate deposits of active or fossil hot springs, on downthrown blocks of NW-SE normal faults and in contact with carbonate rocks (Muratdağı mélange, Aşağıbelova Formation, Miocene sediments); acicular stibnite, antimony ochres and kermesite, late quartz and calcite. Gökçe and Spiro (1994): stibnite from -3.6 to -0.7 ‰ in δ34S, sulfur ascribed to the mafic and ultramafic rocks of the mélange; meteoric fluid of about -7 ‰ near 140 °C. Mine active in 1994, stibnite veins along fault zones, the only occurrence with quartz coeval with stibnite ("Surtmece" in the article). Stibnite from -3.6 to -3.0 ‰; quartz from +8.8 to +9.7 ‰, calculated water from -7.2 to -6.3 ‰ at 140 °C, close to present-day meteoric waters of the region (-6.7 ‰); inclusion CO2 from -25.4 to -19.1 ‰, derived from organic matter (graphite). Coordinates not published (simplified geological map only).

Standard : V-PDB

ValueRangenMineral or matrixSource
−22.8 ± 3.3 ‰−25.4 / −19.1 ‰3fluid inclusion CO2 in quartz
Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 3 analyses, -25.4 to -19.1 (GC-20a -23.8; GC-20c -25.4; GC-20d -19.1). The text gives -19.0 to -32 ‰, the table -19.1 to -25.4 ‰. Carbon drawn from the organic matter (graphite) of the metasediments: reducing fluid.
