Epithermal depositsAu-Ag

Type
Low-sulfidation Au-Ag epithermal (Jurassic)

A major deposit in Argentine Patagonia, discovered in 2006 and mined by Newmont since 2014. Its low-sulfidation veins are hosted in ignimbrites of the Chon Aike Formation (Middle Jurassic). It is the first Argentine deposit in the database, complementing the Aysén province in Chile.

δ34S in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system

Standard : V-CDT

ValueRangenMineral or matrixSource
−2 / −1 ‰hydrothermal fluid (δ34S)
Value calculated for the hydrothermal fluid water, not measured directly on the sulfides. A small share of magmatic sulfur, typical of low-sulfidation systems. The first three mineralisation episodes are indistinguishable.

δ18O in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system

Standard : V-SMOW

ValueRangenMineral or matrixSource
−3 / 0 ‰hydrothermal fluid (water δ18O)
A fluid dominated by meteoric and volcanic water, at 290 to 230 °C, with salinity below 3% NaCl equivalent. Value calculated from fluid inclusions and silicates at equilibrium.
