Searles Lake
California, San Bernardino County (Trona), United States
OtherB, Na2CO3, K
- Type
- Lacustrine evaporites with borax and sodium salts (Quaternary salt lake)
Quaternary salt lake mined for borax, trona and potash; boron supplied by thermal waters related to volcanism in the same drainage chain as Death Valley. Sodium borates are almost the only boron minerals, so their δ11B approximates that of the parent solution according to Oi et al. (1989). Indicative coordinates, not published in the article.
δ11B in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system
Standard : NIST SRM 951
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9.4 ± 1.2 ‰ | 8.5 / 10.2 ‰ | 2 | borax Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 2 analyses, +8.5 to +10.2 (+10.2; +8.5). Oi et al. (1989) adopt +5.0 ‰ for the original solution, mean of six borax and tincal values compiled in their Table 3. | Oi et al.
