Orogenic goldAu

Type
Orogenic gold (Archaean greenstone belt)

Laverton greenstone belt (north-eastern Eastern Goldfields Province, Yilgarn Craton), greenschist-facies metamorphism. Orogenic gold dated at about 2.65 Ga across the district (hydrothermal monazite and xenotime, SHRIMP U-Pb), unrelated in age to nearby granitoids: a single fluid from a deep, distal source according to the authors; regional fluid calculated at 300 °C at δ13C -3.9 ‰ and δ18O +5.8 ‰. Deposit mined by Sons of Gwalia, 80 km south of Laverton, resource of 12.25 t Au at 5.9 g/t. Mafic-ultramafic volcanic and sedimentary succession cut by the Red October shear zone (70 % of the gold, minor graphitic shale), D1 thrust duplex; quartz-carbonate breccia veins with pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite. Ore carbonates with more negative δ13C, ascribed to reaction with reduced black shales. Coordinates not given.
