Nizhny Tagil (platinum placers)

Middle Urals, Russia

OtherPt (EGP)

Type
Pt-Fe alloy placers derived from zoned dunite-clinopyroxenite massifs

Historic Urals platinum placers. Junk and Pernicka (2003): twenty Pt-Fe nuggets from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg collection (inv. 38331), 187Os/188Os from 0.12039 to 0.12681, spread and mean close to the Celtic coin inclusions but with a different distribution; judged a very unlikely source of Celtic gold.

Grains 1.1 to 1.20 of sample F20000703/1. Grains 1.9 and 1.17 have high 186Os/188Os (0.1234 and 0.12147 against 0.1194 to 0.1204 elsewhere), a sign of 186Os from 190Pt in these Pt-rich alloys.
