Montenegro Mine (Oriente)

Former Oriente Province, Cuba

OtherMn

Type
Todorokite-bearing manganese deposit

Cuban Oriente manganese deposit known from a Smithsonian todorokite specimen (NMNH 161707), a 3×3 tunnel Mn oxide typical of hydrothermal Fe-Mn deposits. Tl at 14.6 µg/g and ε205Tl of -1.1, close to mantle and crust: without Tl oxidation on the todorokite surface, no 205Tl enrichment, and no measurable fractionation in experimental adsorption in artificial seawater (log Kd 3.3) (Wang et al., 2026). Published coordinates (Table 1).

Value before the adsorption experiment, -1.09 ± 0.08 (2SD of repeat measurements, Table S1), -1.1 in the text; long-term reproducibility about ± 0.3 ε; 14.6 µg/g Tl in the text but 10.52 ppm in Table S1; unchanged after 24 h in artificial seawater (filter -0.87 ± 0.30).
