Orogenic goldAu

Type
Orogenic gold hosted in metamorphosed volcano-sedimentary rocks

Deposit of about 5.8 Moz gold in the Paleoproterozoic domain of the West African Craton, at the intersection of the Markoye shear zone and a NE-trending shear zone; two gold stages: early low-grade disseminated gold coeval with hydrothermal tourmaline (Eoeburnean, 2.20 to 2.13 Ga), then late higher-grade vein gold (Eburnean). Gauriau et al. (2022): tourmalines from -25.1 to -15.1 ‰, formed at about 400 °C; metamorphic fluid from devolatilization of deep muscovite schists (-29.2 ‰).

The abstract wrongly assigns this range to the metagreywacke; the authors give a -17.8 ‰ mean and a mode near -19.5 ‰.
