Type
Stratiform witherite in Lower Cambrian siliceous rocks

Medium-sized witherite deposit in the Lower Cambrian Lujiaping Formation, in beds between deep-water siliceous rocks and shallower slates; bioclastic textures and biogenic barite replaced by witherite in the sulphate reduction zone. Lü et al. (2003): witherite from -18.4 to -0.4 ‰ in δ11B and δ13C from -16.6 to -11.6 ‰; formed in pore water during early diagenesis.

−10.5 ± 4.9 ‰−18.4 / −0.4 ‰8witherite
Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 8 analyses, -18.4 to -0.4 (Wm-4 -0.4; HB-3 -9.9; HB-2 -18.4; HB-7 -11.2; HB-8 -12.4; Wm-7 -10.7; HB-1 -9.7; W-2 -11.6). Boron from pore water and degraded organic matter during early diagenesis, with minor deep basinal brine; carbon from sedimentary organic matter according to the authors. Wm-2 without a δ11B value.
