Type
Metamorphosed magnesian borates (suanite, szaibelyite, ludwigite) in magnesian rocks and metavolcanic rocks

One of the main boron sources of China, in boron-rich metavolcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Liaohe Group; suanite, szaibelyite and ludwigite bodies associated with magnesian carbonates and silicates, bedded tourmalinites and tourmaline veins, underlying granite. Origin debated: metamorphosed evaporite with a marine component (Jiang et al., 1997) or boron leached by metamorphic fluids then trapped against marine magnesian carbonates (Yan and Chen, 2014). Pyrite δ34S in the borates from +9.1 to +17.3 ‰ (Wang and Han, 1989, quoted by Jiang et al., 1997).

10.4 ± 0.6 ‰9.6 / 11.1 ‰6borates (suanite, fibrous szaibelyite, ludwigite)
Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 6 analyses, +9.6 to +11.1 (501-1-7 suanite +10.9; 501-1-7 suanite +11.1; ZR-16 szaïbélyite +9.6; ZR-16 szaïbélyite +10.3; 501-4-6 ludwigite +10.1; 501-4-6 ludwigite +10.2). Highest values of the deposit. Trigonal boron in suanite and ludwigite: a granitic fluid (at most +3 ‰) could not give +10 ‰, hence the authors reject the skarn model.
