Ultraslow Southwest Indian Ridge (half-spreading rate 0.7 to 0.9 cm/yr), between the Indomed and Gallieni transform faults. Field found during Chinese cruise DY-21, on the southern rift wall about 7.5 km from the axis, 1500 m above the axial valley floor (1400 to 1600 m water depth), in a detachment-fault setting (basalts and peridotites). Two sulphide mounds about 500 m across under a carbonate sediment cover; sphalerite and pyrite dominant, minor marcasite and chalcopyrite. Sulphide δ71Ga close to that of the nearby MORB (+1.22 ‰): gallium mainly leached from the basalts, with minor seawater and sediment contributions; the 0.6 ‰ spread among sulphides would reflect rapid precipitation or mixing of generations (Zhang et al., 2021).
