Type
Hot-spring stibnite (post-Miocene silica-carbonate deposits)

Muratdağı antimony region (western Turkey), more than ten intermittently mined occurrences: post-Miocene mineralisation tied to silica-carbonate deposits of active or fossil hot springs, on downthrown blocks of NW-SE normal faults and in contact with carbonate rocks (Muratdağı mélange, Aşağıbelova Formation, Miocene sediments); acicular stibnite, antimony ochres and kermesite, late quartz and calcite. Gökçe and Spiro (1994): stibnite from -3.6 to -0.7 ‰ in δ34S, sulfur ascribed to the mafic and ultramafic rocks of the mélange; meteoric fluid of about -7 ‰ near 140 °C. Mine active in 1994: epigenetic pockets, bands and veinlets in limestone and brecciated marble blocks, partly as fault veins; fluid discharged at surface and flowed downslope; abundant native sulfur. Four stibnites from -3.5 to -2.8 ‰. Coordinates not published (simplified geological map only).

Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 4 analyses, -3.5 to -2.8 (GC-1 -2.8; GC-2a -3.2; GC-2c -3.4; GC-2f -3.5). Most negative values of the region, in occurrences hosted by metadetrital rocks: fractionation during leaching or lighter sulfur from the metasediments according to the authors.
