Bou Jaber

North-western Tunisia, about 30 km west of Tajerouine (Salt Diapir Province), Tunisie

Mississippi Valley TypeBa-F-Pb-Zn

Type
Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) related to a salt diapir

Barite, fluorite, galena and sphalerite deposit on the edge of the Triassic Bou Jaber salt diapir, in dissolution-collapse breccias of Late Aptian platform carbonates. Three events: sulfides (about 125 °C), barite (about 115 °C) then fluorite (about 152 °C), from brines derived from the dissolution of Triassic evaporites. Reduced sulfur comes from thermochemical reduction of Triassic sulfate, and the radiogenic strontium of barite points to a feldspar-rich reservoir. Indicative coordinates.
