Bangor Co
Tibet (Xizang), Nagqu Prefecture, Bangong-Nujiang suture, China
OtherB (Li, K)
- Type
- Salt-lake brine and lacustrine borax
Salt lake at 4522 m in a faulted basin of the Bangong-Nujiang suture, 8 km east of Siling Co, divided into three lakes (Bangor Co I to III); arid climate (less than 150 mm rain, 2200 to 2500 mm evaporation). Coordinates not published. Over 3 Mt boron in total, including over 1.1 Mt of solid ore (borax, on the floor and shores of lake II); mirabilite and hydromagnesite. Na-SO4 brines with 817-1113 mg/L B. Li et al. (2022): boron supplied by high-δ11B recharge waters (Graza River, northern springs) and low-δ11B southern springs, uneven mixing of lake water; no significant fractionation during salt precipitation.
