Agrokipia B
Troodos ophiolite, northern flank (Agrokipia), Chypre
Volcanogenic massive sulfidesCu-Zn (pyrite)
- Type
- Cyprus-type subseafloor sulphide stockwork (pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite)
Subseafloor sulphide stockwork developed in the lower pillow lavas and underlying dykes of the Cretaceous Troodos ophiolite, cut by drill hole CY2A; neighbouring exhalative Agrokipia A massive sulphide. Zone A (0-154 m) altered at > 50-135 °C (smectite, celadonite, zeolites); zone B (154-300 m) with stockwork (chlorite, quartz, illite, sulphides) up to 250 °C under high water/rock ratios; zone C (300-689 m) in lower greenschist facies, below 300 °C. Yamaoka et al. (2015): δ11B falling with depth to -6 ‰ in highly altered dykes despite 2.5 to 17 µg/g B and 87Sr/86Sr of 0.7064; ore fluid that crossed a crust already enriched in boron by low-temperature alteration. Coordinates not published.
