What's new in version 2.0

Version 2.0 gives IsoFind a language and databases that can be read without it. IGL describes an isotopic model in plain text, IGDB holds fractionation factors together with their citations, and both are published, documented and usable elsewhere. The rest of the release goes into the workspace, which has been reworked in depth. The software is now organised in tabs, panels sit wherever you need them, including on a second screen, and the edits made to a sample can be read like a version log. Alongside these come a search that reaches across the whole application, a dark theme, and extensions that get the same surfaces as the native tools.

IGL, an open isotopic modelling language

An isotopic model is written in readable text, kept in a repository and reread years later. The specification is public and the reference implementation is free software, so a model can be replayed without IsoFind, either from the application or on the command line.

IGDB, fractionation factors with citations

An open format, one file per isotopic system, and the requirement that every numerical value carries its source. The 180 measured factors from the IsoFind database are published there with their references, and the engine states where each value it used comes from.

A tabbed workspace

Opening an analysis no longer closes the previous one. Each page takes its own tab, which you can split into two side-by-side panes, pin, reorder, and find again at the next startup in the state you left it.

Panels you place yourself

A panel can stay docked to an edge, open in the centre when it deserves the room, come out as a floating window, or move to a second screen. Layouts can be named and recalled, tabs and windows included.

Edit history

Every change made to a sample is recorded and can be read from its own record: what changed, and when. The principle is that of a version log, applied to analytical data rather than to code.

The sample record becomes a panel

Everything a sample carries is read in one place, isotopes, geochemistry, physico-chemistry, molecules, methods and publications, and values are corrected directly from there. A right click gives the common actions, with those that write to the database marked as such.

Notebook, console and script editor

The notebook now renders tables and charts, not just text. The Python console and the script editor leave their dialog box to become surfaces in their own right, kept open beside your data.

Universal search

A double press on Shift searches samples, pages, panels, settings, workflows and commands at once. The command palette offers the same reach for anyone working from the keyboard.

Dark theme and custom themes

A complete dark mode, applied across the whole interface. The colour system is open: further sets can be declared in the options or brought in by an extension, which then matches the theme without having had to plan for it.

A fully redrawn interface

Title bar and menus drawn by the application, an informative status bar, geometry and icons harmonised throughout. Preferences are reorganised into sections, with search, setting scope and a summary of pending changes.

Extensions treated like everything else

An Extensions menu and a dedicated panel give direct access to installed plugins. Their interfaces open in the centre, in a window or on an edge just like the application's own: the R and PHREEQC consoles are no longer confined to a dialog box.

Modules and add-ons

The full catalogue now ships in a single program, and what opens depends on the modules written into your licence. The heaviest modules install separately, as downloadable add-ons, without reinstalling the software.

What's new in version 1.3

Version 1.3 turns IsoFind into a connected research platform while staying fully offline-first. A community database lets you share and discover samples, certified reference materials and analytical methods. An online plugin library brings new capabilities in a few clicks, and R and PHREEQC now run natively against your database.

Community sample database

Publish and browse isotopic sample datasets contributed by the community, with search, provenance and direct reuse in your own studies.

Shared reference materials and methods

Access and contribute certified reference materials and analytical methods in the open .isometh format, keeping protocols reproducible and comparable across laboratories.

Online plugin library

Browse, install and share plugins from within IsoFind. New tools and workflows reach you without a full reinstall.

Native R integration

A dedicated plugin runs R directly against your database. Query samples and results, script your analyses and bring the outputs back into IsoFind, all offline.

Native PHREEQC integration

A dedicated plugin drives PHREEQC geochemical modelling from your own data, with speciation and reaction results connected back to the database.

Quality-of-life improvements

Numerous refinements across data entry, the spreadsheet, charts and navigation that smooth the everyday workflow.

Earlier release

What's new in version 1.2

This version substantially expands IsoFind's analytical scope. From environmental monitoring to strategic mineral traceability, counterfeit detection and regulatory compliance, IsoFind now covers the full isotopic, geochemical and molecular spectrum.

Elemental geochemistry

Concentrations for As, Sb, Fe, Mn, Ca, Mg, rare earths and other tracers. Statistics, ratios and geochemical fingerprinting for mining sites, soils and provenance studies.

Physico-chemistry

Monitoring of pH, Eh, temperature, conductivity and salinity, correlated with other analytical variables for comprehensive interpretation.

Extended molecular catalogue

156 molecules in total: PFAS, pesticides, PAHs, PCBs, chlorinated solvents, explosives, dioxins, pharmaceuticals. The 64 PFAS and pesticides are now free in Research.

Full Nexus and PFAS/Pesticides Nexus

Visual modelling of isotopic transformations and fractionations, extended to all molecular families. PFAS and pesticides Nexus available in free Research.

3D simulation

Subsurface plume modelling, multi-element injection, stratified lithologies and reactive transport. Available for PFAS and pesticides in free Research.

Multi-element traceability

Origin search, industrial provenance, multi-source unmixing, counterfeit detection and temporal monitoring. Sb, Pb, Sr, Nd, S, Cu, Zn, Fe, O for strategic supply chains.

Block-based reports

Compose a report by dragging and dropping blocks: samples, maps, diagrams, certification. Certifiable reports for due diligence, audit and regulatory compliance.

Compliance and critical minerals

Dedicated tools for origin certification of strategic minerals, batteries, recycled metals and cultural heritage items. Aligned with CRM Act, EU Battery Regulation and OECD due diligence obligations.

Ni, Li, W traceability

Isotopic traceability extended to nickel, lithium and tungsten, addressing battery supply chains and critical raw materials.
