Southern cold springs of Bangor Co

Tibet (Xizang), Nagqu Prefecture, Bangong-Nujiang suture, China

Groundwater

Type
Groundwater

Salt lake at 4522 m in a faulted basin of the Bangong-Nujiang suture, 8 km east of Siling Co, divided into three lakes (Bangor Co I to III); arid climate (less than 150 mm rain, 2200 to 2500 mm evaporation). Coordinates not published. Ca-Mg-HCO3 springs south of the lake and overflow waters of spring BG-04 (BG-05, BG-06); low-δ11B end-member supplying more than 60 to 90 % of the lake boron in the authors' mixing model.

Standard : NIST SRM 951

ValueRangenMineral or matrixSource
−4.47 ± 2.72 ‰−7.35 / −1.26 ‰4spring water (dissolved boron)
Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 4 analyses, -7.35 to -1.26 (BG-04 -7.35; BG-05 -3.30; BG-06 -1.26; BG-07 -5.96). 0.7 to 20.7 mg/L B; BG-06, the most concentrated, leaches older hydromagnesite. The abstract gives -7.75 ‰ as the minimum, the table -7.35 ‰.
