Springs at the margin of the Shihongtan uranium district
Xinjiang, southwestern margin of the Tuha (Turpan-Hami) basin, China
Groundwater
- Type
- Groundwater
Interlayer oxidation-zone sandstone uranium deposit, in sandstones of the Lower to Middle Jurassic Shuixigou Group; arid climate (17 mm rain per year, over 3000 mm evaporation). Groundwater flows from the southwest toward Aiting Lake. Min et al. (2007): meteoric waters, enriched along the flow path by water-rock interaction, evaporation and mixing with connate waters. Two springs from the confined parts of the aquifer: one in Quaternary gravels (fresh recharge water, facies 1), the other in Carboniferous volcaniclastic rocks. Without published coordinates.
