Surface soils around the Nanhua mine
Eastern Yunnan, Nanhua mine, China
Soils
- Type
- Soil
Surroundings of the Nanhua arsenic-thallium mine (eastern Yunnan), where As2O3 was produced for over 40 years until 2000. Three mixing end-members: lorandite ore (-0.10), host rock (+1.85) and roasting tailings (+5.35); mine wastes supply on average 78 % of Tl in surface soils, over 90 % in the profile and almost all in rhizosphere soils; values too heavy for mixing (surface soil 6, profile 2 at 20-40 cm) are ascribed to Tl oxidation and fixation on Fe-Mn oxides (abundant hematite). (Wei et al., 2026). Coordinates not published (map only); individual values from Table S2; profile levels numbered without published depths, except level 2 (20-40 cm).
