Basse-Terre rivers without hydrothermal input (Guadeloupe)

Guadeloupe, Basse-Terre, France

Rivers and surface water

Type
River or surface water

Basse-Terre waters sampled from 2005 to 2007 around La Soufrière volcano (Louvat et al., 2011); Lesser Antilles arc lavas near 0 ‰ (+2 to +3 ‰ in Martinique, Smith et al., 1997). Coordinates not published. Dilute rivers (11 to 31 µg/L B); rain (δ11B near 45 ‰, Cl/B of 300) supplies 25 to 95 % of the boron.

About 40 ‰ above the volcanic rocks: weathering fractionation (secondary minerals, adsorption onto clays, soil-vegetation cycle). Up to 4 ‰ difference between samples of the same river.
