Rivers and surface water

Type
River or surface water

Niujiaotang zinc mine, mined on a large scale, in carbonate karst terrain. Waters stay alkaline (pH 8.6 to 9.0): mine drainage matters little, anthropogenic zinc mainly travelling with fine tailings dust dispersed by wind (19.5 % on average). Sites 2 to 5, from the mining core downstream; sediment zinc from 10.2 to 1.7 g/kg downstream. Indicative coordinates.
