Central Nepal, Kali Gandaki basin, Népal

Rivers and surface water

Type
River or surface water

River crossing from north to south the Tethyan sedimentary series (carbonates, evaporites of the Mustang graben), the High Himalayan Crystalline and then the Lesser Himalaya. Rose et al. (2000): δ11B decreasing downstream in the Tethyan series, from +23.8 to +9.9 ‰, then rising to +18.3 ‰ in the Lesser Himalaya; boron mostly from evaporite dissolution (9.4 to 64.4 % of dissolved B), partly brought by hot springs. Without published coordinates.

11.7 ‰1Miristi tributary water (dissolved boron)
Single analysis (NAG41). 1490 m, 0.19 µmol/l B, ± 0.7 ‰ (1σ). Highly carbonate tributary: about 70 % of dissolved B would come from carbonates.

−7 ‰1Narsing Khola tributary water (dissolved boron)
Single analysis (LO96). 2900 m, 28.68 µmol/l B, ± 2.2 ‰ (1σ). Lowest value of the study, with the highest B and K of the rivers (880 mg/l dissolved load).
