Other medium

Five lobsters from a sea cage 700 m offshore, fed with local fish and molluscs; mean total Hg of 1.99 ± 0.61 mg/kg, above the European limit of 0.5 mg/kg for crustaceans. Δ199Hg/Δ201Hg of 1.36 ± 0.07: methylmercury photodegraded in the water column before entering the food web; mercury derived from bay sediments according to the authors. Cage coordinates from the authors.

δ202Hg in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system

Standard : NIST SRM 3133

ValueRangenMineral or matrixSource
−0.25 ± 0.08 ‰−0.34 / −0.15 ‰5freeze-dried lobster meat (Lob1 to Lob5)
Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 5 analyses, δ202Hg higher than in sediments, clearly positive Δ199Hg: methylmercury photodegraded then bioaccumulated.
