Mud volcanoes of the Kerch Peninsula (Caucasus collision zone, northern margin of the orogenic prism), draining waters generated at 1 to 3.5 km in the Maykop clays (Oligocene-Miocene); sampled in 2017 (Lin et al., 2026, data of Sokol et al., 2019 and Lavrushin et al., 2025). Large deep-rooted volcanoes: waters freshened by dehydration water from the smectite-illite transition (52 to 74 %), B-rich, low δ11B; small shallow-rooted volcanoes: mixing with seawater-like pore water and strong surface overprinting. Coordinates not published (map only). Flowing waters, 418 to 644 mg/L B, 103 to 117 °C (Mg-Li geothermometer); δ11B clustered around +12.3 ‰ (n = 6), read as the lattice-bound B(OH)4- end-member released during illitization at 100-150 °C.
