Xikuangshan mine water (Wen et al., 2018)

Hunan, Lengshuijiang, Xikuangshan district, China

Acid mine drainage

Type
Acid mine drainage

Xikuangshan antimony mine: 28 waters sampled in November 2013, including 23 springs of aquifers A, B and C, one mine water and four surface waters; arsenic up to 1274 µg/L in springs and 2545 µg/L in rivers, ascribed mainly to leaching of alkaline arsenic residues from the smelter and interaction with stibnite and silicified limestones. Sulfate (δ34S from -0.7 to +4.7 ‰ except B6) comes from sulfide oxidation, mixed with mine and surface waters; no link between δ34S and arsenic (Wen et al., 2018). Labels and 87Sr/86Sr from Table 1 of the published version. Coordinates not published (map only). Mine water with the highest sulfate (799 mg/L) and iron (3736 µg/L), pH 8.0.
