Antamina experimental waste rock drainage

Ancash, Antamina mine, Peru

Mine tailings and waste rock

Type
Mine tailings and waste rock

Leachates from weathering experiments on intrusion, exoskarn, hornfels and marble waste rock, pH 2.2 to 8.6. Dissolved Mo heavier than molybdenites (probably adsorption); Zn lighter in alkaline conditions (adsorption or hydrozincite), close to sphalerite in acidic conditions. Indicative coordinates.

δ98Mo in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system

Standard : NIST SRM 3134

ValueRangenMineral or matrixSource
0.89 ± 0.63 ‰−0.15 / 2.07 ‰16
Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 16 water samples, Table 1. Published mean 0.89 ± 1.25 ‰ (2 SD); Celda-07, rich in molybdenite, stays close to the source.
