Magunao karst aquifer (aquifer B, Xikuangshan)
Hunan, Lengshuijiang, Xikuangshan district, China
Groundwater
- Type
- Groundwater
Xikuangshan antimony mine: 28 waters sampled in November 2013, including 23 springs of aquifers A, B and C, one mine water and four surface waters; arsenic up to 1274 µg/L in springs and 2545 µg/L in rivers, ascribed mainly to leaching of alkaline arsenic residues from the smelter and interaction with stibnite and silicified limestones. Sulfate (δ34S from -0.7 to +4.7 ‰ except B6) comes from sulfide oxidation, mixed with mine and surface waters; no link between δ34S and arsenic (Wen et al., 2018). Labels and 87Sr/86Sr from Table 1 of the published version. Coordinates not published (map only). Upper 258 m aquifer (limestones and sandy limestones), the main drinking-water resource of Xikuangshan.

Standard : V-CDT
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 ± 1.8 ‰ | −0.7 / 4.7 ‰ | 12 | dissolved sulfate Mean and standard deviation recalculated from 12 analyses, -0.7 to +4.7 (B1 +0.7; B2 -0.5; B3 +4.0; B4 +3.0; B5 +2.3; B7 -0.7; B8 +2.1; B9 +2.1; B10 +1.0; B11 +0.7; B12 +4.7; B13 +4.4); excluding B6; slight bacterial sulfate reduction suggested by the δ34S-sulfate anticorrelation (r² = 0.54). | Wen et al. | −10.7 ‰ | 1 | dissolved sulfate Single analysis; sample B6; outlier with no equivalent among district sulfides, set aside by the authors; 360 mg/L sulfate, 208 µg/L As. | Wen et al. (2018), Coupled S and Sr isotope evidences for elevated arsenic concentrations… |
