Recently discovered gold deposit (resource of 8 t at 5 g/t) in the Cangrejos-Zaruma district, related to Miocene intrusions (diorite, dacite porphyry, granodiorite; magmatism from 20 to 26 Ma) and a diatreme, within Jurassic to Cretaceous metamorphic rocks of the Palenque Unit. Wang et al. (2021): heavy tourmaline in magmatic-hydrothermal breccia (oxidized magmatic fluid), light phyllic-stage tourmaline (reducing fluid that reacted with graphite-bearing metamorphic rocks), intermediate late tourmaline (external waters).
