Cueva de la Mora

Huelva (Iberian Pyrite Belt), Spain

Volcanogenic massive sulfidesCu-Zn-Pb (pyrite)

Type
Volcanogenic massive sulphide

Volcanogenic massive sulphide body of the northern Iberian Pyrite Belt, hosted by felsic volcanic rocks of the volcano-sedimentary complex (early Tournaisian to middle Visean), metamorphosed at sub-greenschist facies (about 350 °C). Mine no longer in production, with hydrothermal replacement and recrystallisation textures and high mean δ34S, like Concepción and Rio Tinto (Velasco et al., 1998). Chloritised footwall rhyolite: fluid in equilibrium with chlorite (210 to 362 °C) at δ18O +12.0 to +12.5 ‰ and δD -38.5 ‰, among the most 18O-rich known for this deposit type. Coordinates not given.
