Anning (carbonate-hosted clay-type lithium)
Central Yunnan, about 30 km from Kunming, China
OtherLi (Ga, Al)
- Type
- Carbonate-hosted clay-type lithium deposit
Lithium-bearing claystones of the Daoshitou Formation (Lower Permian), derived from weathering of the underlying Carboniferous carbonates, then reworked and preserved in karst depressions. The clays are mainly illite, clinochlore, kaolinite and diaspore or boehmite. Gallium, close to aluminium, tracks clay transformations: solid-state transformation dominates in drill core ZK401, where lithium is best preserved, and dissolution-recrystallisation dominates in drill core ZK406.

| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.24 ± 0.1 ‰ | 0.97 / 1.33 ‰ | 10 | lithium-bearing claystone, drill core ZK401 Mean and standard deviation of 10 samples, Table 1. Negative correlation between gallium content and δ71Ga. Li from 1840 to 4070 ppm; the abstract wrongly assigns this range to gallium. | Zhang et al. (2025), Gallium isotope variation in the Anning carbonate-hosted clay-type l… |
