Aguas Teñidas Este

Huelva (Iberian Pyrite Belt), Spain

Volcanogenic massive sulfidesCu-Zn-Pb (Ag, Au)

Type
Volcanogenic massive sulphide

Volcanogenic massive sulphide body of the northern Iberian Pyrite Belt, hosted by felsic volcanic rocks of the volcano-sedimentary complex (early Tournaisian to middle Visean), metamorphosed at sub-greenschist facies (about 350 °C). Quartz-pyrite-chlorite stockwork below the lens, chloritised and sericitised footwall rhyolites, ankerite-bearing footwall carbonate ore. Resources of about 35 Mt at 1.3 % Cu, 0.9 % Pb, 3.1 % Zn, 37 g/t Ag and 0.5 g/t Au. Stockwork fluid inclusions: Th 82 to 240 °C, 2.9 to 24 wt% NaCl eq. Calculated fluids: δ18O -2.7 to +1.8 ‰ for quartz, +7.7 to +9.6 ‰ and δD -45 to -36 ‰ for chlorites (300 to 360 °C); δ13C -11.4 to -5.2 ‰ for ankerites (73 to 170 °C). Highly evolved seawater with a significant input of deep magmatic or metamorphic fluids according to the authors. Coordinates not given.
