Epithermal depositsAg (Pb, Zn, Sb)
- Type
- Epithermal Ag-Pb-Zn veins (late Variscan)
The largest silver deposit in Spain, worked from the 19th century to the 1990s at high grades (over 1,000 g/t silver). The Stephanian to Permian epithermal mineralisation relates to a late-Variscan extensional period. It is hosted in high-grade metamorphic rocks of a metamorphic core complex and formed in two to four hydrothermal stages.
δ109Ag in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system
Standard : NIST SRM 978a
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| −0.4 / 0.4 ‰ | acanthite and silver-bearing minerals (hypogene) Typical hypogene range for the deposit, one of the seven world-class deposits in the study. | Arribas et al. 2020, The Isotopic Composition of Silver in Ore Minerals |
δ34S in ‰ (per mil) Values of the same system
Standard : V-CDT
| Value | Range | n | Mineral or matrix | Source |

| 6 / 6 ‰ | sulfides (andesitic magmatic source) Approximate value given by Lillo Ramos for the magmatic component. A second sulfur source, derived from metasediments, would have an initial δ34S of at least +25 ‰, with no more precise figure in the abstract. | Lillo Ramos, The Hiendelaencina epithermal silver-base metal district, Central Spain, Min… (1992) |
